I love to go camping and I also travel a lot. I have a family and I have 2 dogs. The family is not a problem when traveling. However, my 2 Bassett Hounds can be a problem trying to figure out how I’m going to transport them in the car and in a plane. There is an easy solution to this problem if you are experiencing the same problems as I do. The answer is a pet carrier. I have 2 small Basset Hounds and about a year and a half ago, I bought each one a soft pet carrier.

They have literally changed the way I travel and for the better. Before, it was just a hassle riding in the car with both dogs on the loose. It was a little bit dangerous also because they were younger and more rambunctious. They are more mellow now but when you have a dog jump into your lap while driving it can be scary. That’s when I knew it was time for a permanent solution or to just leave my pets at home when I travel.

I have a close friend that bought a dog backpack carrier and he uses it to ride his dog around on his bicycle. It’s pretty cool actually to see his dogs head sticking out of the backpack while he goes on a 20 mile ride. His dog loves it. My friend spends extra time with his dog because of it. The 2 of them seem to have a very special bond and you can’t help but think that the reason they spend a lot of time together doing everything. Not just when my friend comes home at night and the dog greets him at the door. They have a very special friendship. For more information, see our post: dog backpack carrier guide.

If you want to spend a lot of quality time with your pet, you should consider a pet carrier. Your pet will actually enjoy it because it will feel like a home away from home for them. Once they get used to it and it has their scent and your scent covering it, you will be amazed at the calming effect a pet carrier will have on them. My dogs are really calm now when I travel. They have no problem getting inside because they feel safe. I can now drive down the road with my family in a lot safer conditions without all hell breaking loose in the backseat. I bought a washable pet carrier but I’m afraid to wash it and remove all of their scent. I usually just take a wet rag and spot clean wherever it needs it. If it starts smelling bad, I will wash it but most carriers are well ventilated and odor will not be an issue for you.
